One of the best things about photographing women is some of the fun and beautiful dresses I get to photograph. Annie picked up this vintage dress when she was 10 with the intention of wearing it to prom. I insisted on a few impromptu photos and here a few of what we got!
Maternity Portraits- Colorado Springs, CO
I am an aunt! I've been an aunt for several months, but since I'm a slow blogger I'm just getting around to showing the portraits from my brother and his wife's maternity shoot. I LOVE my little nephew. He's the cutest thing ever! His little dimpled chin and his big, blue eyes. I know I can't do glamour portraits for a little boy, but I'm going to get photos of him soon! Here's a few of my favorites from the maternity shoot.
Mother and Daughter Portrait Shoot - Colorado Springs, CO
The bond between mothers and daughters -- I have two daughters of my own, and the love we have for each other overwhelms me. I know that there's phases, and ebbs and flows to every relationship, but my love for my daughters grows fiercely each day. It's a wild, beautiful love. Photographing mothers and daughters is probably my favorite type of photo session. It's a privilege to capture that relationship.
Throwback Thursday - First Glamour Portrait Session
I can't believe it's almost been a year since my first glamour session. My style has changed a little since then. I'm more bold with my styling choices, but I still love the posing!
It's amazing how contemporary glamour photography fit in so well with my own values. I have always felt that every woman is beautiful. And it makes me so sad that there's huge culture of self body shaming in our little world. Sure, I dabbled in self-shaming in high school and college when I thought I should be, but I soon realized that shame over one's appearance is such a lie. Every woman (and every man for that matter) should celebrate their bodies. For me, it's spiritual reasons. "God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them." Gen. 1:27
Whatever reason one finds to see beauty in themselves it needs to be celebrated and cherished.
When I found out glamour isn't dead I thought, "this is the perfect avenue for my photography." What could be better than preserving an image of a woman for her to treasure and pass down to her children and grandchildren? What could be more valuable than showing someone who's never felt beautiful that they indeed are. That maybe they've never had a great picture of themselves because they've never allowed anyone to take a great picture, because they've hidden away behind husbands, friends, and children. It's time that stopped.
It's time for women to love themselves, to cherish themselves, and to treat themselves well.
For my first glamour shoot I asked my beautiful mother-in-law, her two sister, and her mother to come over and let me practice my glamour posing. The super talented Cynthia Mazzara with Magnifica Bella did their makeup. We had a great time. I just wish I provided more wine! Here are a few of my favorite pictures.
Callie Glamour Portraits - Colorado Springs
Callie kindly modeled for me for a conceptual fantasy photo shoot. At the end of the fantasy shoot I pulled her aside, and took a few glamour portraits. Here are my favorites.
Amy's Outdoor Maternity Glamour Portraits - Colorado Springs, CO
When my beautiful friend Amy got pregnant with her first baby I immediately signed up to do maternity portraits. We went to a nearby open space, and captured her beautiful tummy. Her husband Mark joined us for a few pictures. I love the couple portraits I captured of them! Amy radiated with all her mommy beauty, and took gorgeous pictures. Here are a few of my favorites.
